Finalized Hooded Man

This is the simplest drawing I've done and it didn't even take that long. I used nothing but the pen tool and just made polygon selections to fill with colors. Lighten'd and darken'd the right spots and it looks great.

Trying Out New Art Style

I'm trying out a new art style to go with my digital comic. I needed a simpler and faster way of drawing without losing the detailedness. This turned out good I might settle on this.

Tutoiral 2 - This is Called Inking

So after the line art layer on Photoshop I added a new layer over it called inking. What I did with the inking for this one was used a charcoal pencil and when you select form the brush tool tips the brush options has a shape dynamics option in there there should be a brush diameter control and there shoul dbe a drop down menu for it. Select Pen Pressure and set the percentage to 50. Then go to the Pen Tool and use either the freeform pen or the regular pen tool and go over the pencils, don't forget to set the line art layer's opacity to about 40%. As you start making the pen path and go to Stroke Path after you made the Anchor Points, make sure to have the Simulate Pen Pressure option checked then press ok. After all of that it looks like that.

Tutorial 1 - This is Called Lineart

So basically I'm going to create my next few drawings using a tutorial step by step method. That way I can get back to my basics and maybe some people can take a few lessons and learn from my process. This is the first step in all my drawings and it's called Lineart. This is usually done by using the Pencil tool in Photoshop, but I like to do it with the #2 pencil brush in the Dry Media Brushes set, old habits from non-digital drawing, what can I say? Anyway, good lineart and good art usually requires good reference photos. Since these tutorials will try to be simple to follow I will be using a pre-posed one. This should allow you to get a fell for how the anatomy should look on a female character and how cloth looks, not to mention a cool looking halberd.

Mongols Are Better Than Knights

So I went over that drawing I started last night and I realized it sucked. The pose was all off, along with the balance of the whole thing. So I went back to the proverbial drawing board and just brainstormed what I could do to fix it. And I'm sitting there remembering what a great movie I saw last night (Mongol), and I've had this image in my head of this Mongolian Warrior I've been wanting to draw so I figure why not use the same kind of pose and fix the anatomy a bit as well. So here's a rough ink on armature so far.

New Drawing Started

This is just the armature to start the new drawing. It's pretty bold and my first drawing to have such a dynamic pose. It's going to be a grand epic piece.

"Vell, Dr. Jones...Vhere eest the Amulet?"

This drawing was started on Friday August 21, 2010. Took me about 2 days to finish all of that. I used a German Officer's overcoat and cap as reference. I then used a lingerie corset as reference for her body wear. The coloring was all done with an awesome spray brush with natural feathering effects that smoothed out the edges of the colors. The shading however, was done in inking with a pen making shapes and filling in with black. The flag in the background looks a bit lower quality because it was a last minute thought to add a background. Hope you like.
